Operating a One-room Schoolhouse

Management of schools fell primarily to the community's board of school trustees and the school secretary. The school trustee was tasked with the management of local school houses in individual communities, with a board of trustees being formed for each school consisting of three local members of the community. Their role was one of management; they were tasked with allocating funds for the school, acquiring adequate teachers, keeping up repairs and regular maintenance, handling all property and zoning-related issues, and collecting the proper taxes from the community. County School Inspectors play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the quality of education within their jurisdictions. Assigned by the county's education department, these inspectors are often experienced educators, such as former teachers, who bring valuable insights into the educational process.
